Testimonial 2 - Astra[]

This is an easy trial if you have a 100% evade provoke tank, and a magic cover tank with 100% ice and dark resistance, and high SPR.

Team build

Unit Esper Notes
Healer Any Equip for high SPR, low ATK and Bushido - Freedom; Barblizzara on Carbuncle
Provoke tank Any 100% Evade with counter
Magic Cover Tank (MCT) Fenrir 100% Ice and Dark Resistance and highest SPR in your team
Chainer-1 Ifrit Equip man-eater materias
Chainer-2 Diabolos Equip man-eater materias

Any generic healer with Raise/Full-Life and MP Recovery will do; I used Tilith. You could also use Rosa (with Bless +2) as well.

Your provoke tank needs 100% evasion. If you can equip counter materia/equipment, that would help in generating LB crystals for the mission.

Use either Mystea or Shylt since they have stop resistance. Gear for 100% ice and dark resistance - an easy feat with Fenrir equipped.

Here's an example build:

Mystea 6★

Right hand: Ulric's Kukri MP+20%, ATK+84, SPR+20
Left hand: Holy Wand ATK+16, SPR+120
Head: Frozen Crown HP+500, DEF+16, SPR+50
Body: Cupid's Robe DEF+12, MAG+30, SPR+30
Accessory 1: Shadow Dragon Scale MAG+30
Accessory 2: Alexandrite Ring DEF+5, SPR+10
Materia 1: Dual Wield
Materia 2: Staff Mastery SPR+50%
Materia 3: Adventurer V ATK+40%, DEF+40%, MAG+40%, SPR+40%
Materia 4: Thirst for Survival HP+30%, SPR+30%
Esper: Fenrir HP+48, MP+30, ATK+55, DEF+25, MAG+56, SPR+25
Total: HP:5376, MP:459, ATK:338, DEF:309, MAG:316, SPR:695

105% Ice Resistance, 100% Dark Resistance, 695 SPR

As long as your chainers are about 700 ATK with man-eater, anyone will do. I used eAgrias and Fryevia.

Strategy

As far as I can tell, Kain only has the following skills:

  • Darkness - AoE Dark Magic attack
  • Ice Spear - AoE Ice Magic attack
  • Lance - ST HP/MP drain
  • Jump - ST multi-hit physical attack
  • Holy Torch - AoE Dispel skill
  • Focus - Self ATK/MAG buff
  • Copper Hourglass - ST Stop below 60%
  • Hi-Potion - Self-heal below 60%

With the team set up as above, you will only take damage from the first jump and Lance. Your magic cover tank and provoke tank will absorb everything that comes at you.

On turn ZERO, Kain will jump and target your highest SPR unit. If you followed the guide, the target will be your magic cover tank.

Turn 1, use your 100% provoke skill on your tank, the rest of your units are free to do anything. Your magic cover tank will die.

Turn 2, revive your magic cover tank with your healer. You must burst Kain's HP to below 80% this turn. This will force Kain to jump this turn instead of using his AoE magic.

Turn 3, set your magic cover tank up. You may have to recover MP for your provoke tank if he was Lanced.

Turn 4 onwards, you're now set to complete the entire trial taking little to no damage. Remember to use Stop resistance, watch out for Kain's dispel and re-activate your provoke and magic cover ability when you have to.

Good luck!

100% evade VoD with ice shield + shiva cheese??

Edit: nevermind won't work because he can stop you.... --Luckyguy18

I tried the VoD strategy real quick, but I'm only able to get him to 95% evade currently. I tested three times and was killed each time by Kain's ice spear ability. I had 100% ice resist on, so I guess the 95% evade was the fail point, but I thought the ice spear was magic damage, which would be completely mitigated by the ice resistance. Evade was for the physical bs he throws at you. So I'm not sure what happened. ??? --Ihateusernamesrawr

I Had a Noctis with Moogle Plushie and Golem. He was not my highest Spr character and still drew the first attack (and dodged it b/c I have him at 100% evade also). This is likely not 100% that he provokes this but there is at least a chance.

--216.169.18.56 15:06, 15 June 2018 (UTC)

So, Astra... I tried your strategy. Orlandeau x2, Ayaka, WoL and Mystea, 100% evade and over 100% each ice and dark resistance. Turn zero went like ya said, Mystea died. Turn 1, two chainers only burned through 10% of his health. Ayaka and two chainers die cuz he casts magic. Then WoL and Mystea get killed by the ice spear, even though Mystea is 120% ice resist...what am I missing here? Both chainers are north of 900 atk, using Diabolos, Odin, and man-eater.

I think you're missing the part where he somehow kills me with ice damage when I'm immune to ice damage...

Finally beat it, sort of. 2/4 missions. I just don't understand how I'm doing so little damage...the videos on YouTube are like a different fight from what I'm doing...if anyone could shed some light, it would be greatly appreciated. But now it's time for bed, night night.

Me again. Getting frustrated with this dude. My 100% evade tank is getting killed by physical damage, my magic tank isn't blocking the magic aoes...is there some rng aspect that Astra and the others didn't mention? What am I doing wrong? Help! --Ihateusernamesrawr

Response to your post: Probably what's killing your evade tank is the lance ability? One time he one-shoted my 100% evade noctis with it. About the magic tank not blocking the aoe magic attacks, only reason i can find is kain dispelling your team and then casting aoe magic. --Altarieldk
Ok, thank you, that explains part of it. Didn't realize dispel got rid of the tanking abilities. I still don't see how my 120% resistance to ice unit is getting killed by ice damage, but idk. I'll try again later. --Ihateusernamesrawr

Thank fudging goodness, finally cleared. Thanks to everybody! --Ihateusernamesrawr

100% evade noctis + 100%+ ice/dark resistance mystea and you're done for the game. Beware the lance, though, at some point he one-shoted my noctis with lance. Another important thing, always make sure to have myst's clear veil up and/or refresh it when kain dispels your team. GL. --Altarieldk

Did it using: A special enhanced Noctis with 100% evade, 100% Ice & Dark resist, Fish+2; Lotus Mage Fina with 100% Ice & Dark resist; Luneth with 100% Ice & Dark resist; Onion Knight with partial Ice & Dark resist; Friend Onion Knight 1000+ Atk + Ifrit.

My Noctis had the highest SPR so was targetted on turn 1 but no damage!

The rest was 4 to 5 more turns hammering him down with double Onion Cutter capped by Cut Through. It needed Fina's Divine Veil to boost element resist & buff team otherwise hardly any damage done. Each time a character got stopped we had done enough damage for Kain to Jump. That allowed me to kill the stopped character and Fina to Full Raise him back again. After getting Kain down to 1% he took out Fina. I just hit him with the rest of the team and job done . . . WHEW! I was relieved to have finished and then surprised to get all 4 prixes. I realised then that I had used Noctis's LB instead of Warp strike / Link.

I had tried a team built for invulnerability. I got Kain below 60% then was hit by a Dispel which took out Fish on Noctis, then an ST physical took out Shylt my Magic cover and then the rest of the team was wiped all in one turn! I recommend going for speed and ensuring you have two characters that can do a Full health Raise to remove the ST stop.

Good Luck!

At around 40% HP, Kain uses Holy Torch to dispel everything, and then he uses Hourglass, and then he jumps. How the hell am I supposed to deal with this? He kills a random unit the next turn, I have a stopped unit (again, randomly selected), AND all of my buffs are gone. It's just way too many things to deal with in the span of one turn, right before Kain uses Darkness and Lance and like six basic attacks.

I truly don't understand how any of you can say the fight is easy after round 4.

BTW: I am running a full ice/dark resist Mystea. Full evade Noctis with highest SPR. Tillith. Seph and Orlandeau.

I am TMR'd and geared to the hilt, and I've read like ten different strategies by now. Watched videos, too.

To say that I'm vexed at this point would be a complete understatement.

Tips and Tricks to beat Crystal Chamber - Battle with Kain with BluEvanescent[]

Hello and welcome to the BluEvanescent - where tips and tricks were rarely being seen but effective. Kain Highwind! One of the most difficult boss I've ever faced. Took me twice to figure out how and took me thrice to equip the proper units. Luckily enough, I have some tips on how to beat him.

Too bad it's 3/4 mission so, let's get going, girls!

Unit Equipments[]

Remember, on first Jump, he will target the highest SPR units, so best way to set up at least 2 Healers and an SPR Tank with Provoke.

Unit Equips Equipment
Fryevia Lumiere, Fryevia' Needle, Trick Hat, Siren's Robe/Dark Robe, Ring of the Lucii, Earrings, 2x Letters and Arms and Mag +30%, ESPER Diabolos with Man-Eater
Warrior of Light (504 SPR, Main Dummy) Staff of Osiris, Genji Shield, Hairpin of Purity, Grand Armor, Ankh of Goddess, Arsha's Talisman, Mechanical Heart, Thirst of Survival, True Shard of Genius, SPR + 20%, ESPER Golem
Lotus Mage Fina Any equipments as long as it is HP+ or MP+ and not SPR
Lotus Mage Fina Any equipments as long as it is HP+ or MP+ and not SPR
Friend: Fryevia Eh, too lazy figure it out.

Tips and Tricks[]

  • The higher your Tank's SPR, the higher the chance your survival is.
  • Heal as much as possible and buff ATK, MAG, DEF, SPR, auto-regen and auto-refresh and Elemental Resistances. Also, gain LB crysts.
  • Chain both Fryevia's enhanced Frost Flower Blitz and continue until he dies.
  • Dispel stats buff to Kain.
  • Finish him off with your chained Limit Burst just before the last 10% of HP.

If done correctly, congratulations! Except mine.

Afterwords[]

Congratulations! You beat him! After all, you need alot of TMs when it comes on fighting this. You can also try to buy Man Eaters from FF4 Fabul Castle event in order to deal more damage. And that's it for today! Thank you for watching and remember, "You SPOONY BARD!"

6/15/2018 (13:00~ish server time) Blacklist321890 Things I learned from experimenting on the boss.
Ice Lance = Ice magic damage. (Aoe) (all turns not jumping)
Darkness = Dark magic damage. (Aoe) (every 3 turns, or every turn below 60%)
Holy Torch= AoE dispel (rune and manufactured netecite is useless).
Copper coin = single target stop (can be provoked). (60% hp of lower).
Focus = self atk/mag buff.
Lance = hp/mp single target absorb. (Magic damage, can't be covered (never seen it being covered).
Hi potion = 10% hp heal self.
No need for questions = single target jump (highest spr can't be provoked.) (if the highest spr unit jumps/hide will target a random unit instead (can't be provoked).)
Jump/ doublejump = a one turn jump that can be provoked that hurts a lot and hits 10-13 times. (reraise can work if the unit is tanky enough). (every threshold 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%).

!!!!!!!!!!

Thresholds:

80%> = Focus, jump. (Can't remember if he does holy torch or not).
60%> = ice lance, focus, hi potion, double jump.
40%> = ice lance, holy torch, copper coin, hi-potion, focus, doublejump. (I can't remember whether he atks or not)
20%> = ice lance, darkness, 1-6 normal atk, holy torch, copper coin, hi-potion, focus, doublejump.

!!!!!!!!!

Every 3 turns 60% above= lance, ice lance, darkness, 4-6 normal atk, holy torch, focus, 1 normal atk.
Every 3 turns 59%-40%= lance, ice lance, darkness, 4-6 normal atk, holy torch, focus, 1 normal atk. (he will use copper coin after this turn.)
Every 3 turns 40%~30% lower= lance, copper coin, ice lance, darkness, 4-6 normal atk, focus, 1 normal atk. (he no longer uses holy torch).

!!!!!!!!

other non-threshold turns =
60% above = ice lance, 4-6 normal atk.
60% ~ 40% = copper coin(after the 3rd turn), ice lance, darkness, 4-6 normal atk.
40% lower = lance, copper coin(always), ice lance, darkness, 4-6 normal atk.

!!!!!!!!

The challenges of the trial:

STOP = really annoying and at the lower thresholds he will use this after holy torch, which means it is a gamble who will get it unless u have high draw attacks, and unless you have natural resistance to stop (SOMEONE WILL GET IT). Kain will also stop using holy torch at some point (except for thresholds) thus making one or more of your unit perma-stop. (Have a way to self dispel and resist stop is a must.)
The Jumps= There are only very few units that will survive against kain's jumps head on, even with reraise and guard and pod: 153. Having a way to raise is a must, and mirage does NOT WORK. (I tried)

Mana = Kain's lance is really really STRONG. My war-light had 360 spr and it lost 250 mp in one hit and he will spam this skill below 40% hp. As a result units that can give mana immediately are very important. (E.Ace, M.S. nichol.)

The turn 3 cycles= The 3 turn cycle of kain is a REAL KAIN (I have no regrets). Above 40% he will do his combo and it will include, holy torch, focus and a single auto attack. Which means the provoke effect you have will be dispelled and Kain is free to hit any unit he wants. On non tank units this will hit for 4000-7000. The general solution for this is to have a unit that has high draw attack increasing the chances that your important units survive. Camoflauge also works in helping your important units survive from the attack. Once you are 39% hp or lower, kain stops using holy torch but uses copper coin almost every turn, which is a brand new problem of its own.

(Units used to clear: Wilhelm, Yuna, Sepiroth, Mystea. Friend: Sepiroth). (please note I may have missed some things, but I am sure this is 80-90% accurate.) ---23:01, 15 June 2018 (UTC)~~

Kentrol Beat is with Noctis 100% evade and Fish +2 to provoke Soleil to buff stats Mystea ~150% Ice/Dark Resist ExAileen True double hand for limit burst Divine Soleil Generic healer and offers some MP refresh to team. Limit burst offers a good buff is Soleil loses her cycle. Give her Bushido Freedom to remove stop after holy torch.

I also found that the first jump doesn't always target the highest SPR unit.  My Noctis had higher SPR than everyone else on my team by design, even with the 120% buffs from Soleil and my Mystea always got targeted first turn.

ranks555 My team was pretty similar to the wiki, and was as follows (with reasons):

Maritime Strategist Nichol (but any buffer will do really; he was for 100% buff and 30% damage mitigation in one turn. Equipped with Concealing Cloth for less chance of being targeted). Siren esper equipped. Mystea (100% dark and ice resist. She has innate camouflage for less chance of being targeted. Also equipped with Recovery Rod). Fenrir equipped. Liquid Metal Slime (or Wilhelm for innate draw attacks. Equipped with Gauntlets, Moogle Plushie and anything to increase hit points. I used Judge Magister Cloak) Golem esper equipped. Meliadoul (for reraise [Chantage] on Liquid Metal Slime as a fail safe measure. Equipped with Dualcast and Dispel) Any damage unit with innate camouflage. I used Trance Terra with Tetra Sylphid [esper has camouflage].

General rotation: First turn: Liquid Metal Slime defends. Provoke is not necessary on this turn, and won't work anyway. Meliadoul casts Chantage on LMS. Trance Terra used Magical Activation, for obvious reasons. Mystea used Triteleia Wall. MS Nichol used Linked Stance, then Soulful Stance and Impregnable Stance for 100% stat boost and 30% damage mitigation.

Second turn: If LMS survived without falling once, use Chantage on Mystea; if not, on LMS. Mystea can heal if Kain is over 50% threshold; otherwise, use Clear Veil. DPS attacks. LMS uses Provoke. MS Nichol uses Dualcast and uses Cure on LMS and Dispel on Kain; or dualcast Magic Restorative Stance as needed.

This is basically recycled. Keep Kain dispelled. When Kain starts to dispel the entire team, reapply damage mitigation, Triteleia Wall, Chantage on LMS, Provoke on LMS, and attack when possible. Stop will always be applied to LMS. As long as LMS has Provoke active, ignore it. Otherwise, dualcast Cure and Dispel and select LMS as a target before Dispel goes off. Finish Kain off with a limit burst.

If LMS ever goes down and stays down, immediately revive it and cast a reraise spell on it. If you equipped your team as I said, all attacks will go to LMS.

Battle w/ Kain Win (2018) by FalconX -> easy win. Trance terra x2.

 > Group: Chow (ice/dark resist 105, diablos), WoL (yellow balloon, provoke shield, golem), ill.nichol (dualcast equip + phoenix avatar raise +chain), trance terra (mag975), lotus mage fina (750spr +carby dispel). friend trance terra

Fight: 1st round just put LM fina reraise x2 on tank + chow. Chow does magic cover, trance terra x2 =magic activate, WoL -cowered courage ability equip. ..... fina will die but can use chow or ill.nichol to raise np, then just keep WoL provoke up & reraise. terras spark chain can do like 66%hp if chain w ill.nichol, nothing bad.

 > Forgot to mention: Chow has atk/def +stop resist move last 40%hp, keep up.

have fun, --Gogamer2018 (talk) 04:36, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
