Break Out Equippable Materia?

  • Currently, this page lists every ability available, whether it's from a Materia, Character, piece of Equipment, or anything else. This is a great thing to have, but it's all duplicated in the pages linked from the See Also section. I feel this, the Ability Materia page, would be more useful if we broke out the list of equippable Ability Materia. This would make the list more convenient for answering the questions like "What do I want in this Ability slot?" or "Should I get/keep this materia?" If no one is opposed, I may be willing to do the work for this myself. --DaevalTheRat (talk) 06:55, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
My thoughts exactly! I think it would do a lot of good separating those two things. I guess the ones from Other section will contain all of the effects the materia from Ability Materia section have, but not the other way around. Maybe using this section to reflect the in-game guide? Like the recipes one. --Victimfc (talk) 03:26, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
I prefer the table format to the icons used on the recipe page, but otherwise this is what I had in mind. If I get time, I'll start on it.--DaevalTheRat (talk) 04:32, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
I'm not sure if either of you read the introduction paragraph to this page, but it clearly states what classifies as ability materia. So whatever you think you're asking for or want, it already is.--FencerTJ (talk) 04:14, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
Edit: You're not quite right, but I do see what you mean. This is not the list of materia-slot items we're asking for. However, it's different from the other existing pages in that it does not list abilities that come from characters; only from materia, equipment, and espers. This makes it a list of abilities that can be granted to a character who doesn't have them. This has an awkward overlap with the other lists and doesn't solve the missing materia list problem, but is clearly useful in its own way. I'll have to think on this. --DaevalTheRat (talk) 04:58, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
The way I see it is pretty simple: There are several ways for a character to gain an ability: innate, equipment, esper and materia. There are sections listing ALL abilities on the "Other" tab, and they are separated as passive, active and magic. But there is also a section "Ability Materia" in "Item" tab. This latter also contain ALL abilities, not only MATERIA. Althought this is stated in the introduction, that does not only makes this whole section redundant, but miss the point of the fact materia is equipable stuff. The change DaevalTheRat suggests is to keep both sections, but keep only the equipable MATERIA on the "Ability Materia" section, which makes it clearer, simpler, non-redundanter and eleganter. --Victimfc (talk) 12:44, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
So the intro states "This page lists not only ability materia available, but also includes abilities obtained from all equipment, other materia and espers as well." Now if it isn't clear what materia means then there's this. Since I'm not sure if you're understanding Victimfc, Ability Materia is best summed up as equippable materia, hence it being considered an item. Unlike Special Abilities (Active), Special Abilities (Passive), and Magic Abilities as listed in the others tab, those are meant to encompass all active, pass, and magic abilities, innate or equippable. There is not a single ability in Ability Materia that is exclusive innate as opposed to the other ability pages. If you want to make it into a spreadsheet for easier sorting for yourself so that it is only materia stored in your abilities inventory, then by all means. --FencerTJ (talk) 23:49, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
Do not worry, bro. I see what you mean. I know what the intro says and what an ability materia is. But I guess you are missing the point. We were just giving ideas to better the wiki, not "for easier sorting for myself". The intro states that but it does not mean it is the best way. Imagine a section called "Exclusive Equipment" and then the intro states that said section will encompass all equipment, exclusive or not, but there is other sections with the same information. Although the "Exclusive Equipment" will still be useful and more complete, it will not be more useful than what we already have. Anyway it goes, I will not make a huge change on something someone else put a great effort on making without his/her approval. Did not meant to cause a huge fuss, I do appreciate the lot of effort you put here (in case you think I do not), but I wanted to make sure you got what I meant. And I can't make it any more clearer than what I said. You both be nice and behave. --Victimfc (talk) 03:02, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Premium Bundle Abilities

  • I'm not sure whether I should include the Ability Materias such as ATK+20% to the list, given that these are only available during the bundle event. But if you think closer, you can argue that since, FFCD character's ability materias are listed here, then these Premium Bundle-only materias should also be included given that they are all limited items. --Chippou (talk) 08:22, 5 October 2016 (EDT)

Not sure how ability effects work

  • Can you please specify on materia, abilities, etc whether a percentage increase increases only the base stat, or if it actually impacts the full stat? For example, some abilities that grant attack 10% only grant an additional 10% based on the units base attack, while other abilities and items might boost all attack by 10% (Base and any attack derived from items). This would probably offer some clarity when playing the meta game.

Something really needs to be done about this page

By far, it is the most confusing and hardest to navigate page on the wiki. Trying to look for materia or equipment with a specific stat or ability is like hunting for a needle in a haystack. There was some talk about revamping the page a few months ago, but there doesn't seem to be any movement on it. Ideally, I think Equipment, Materia, and Esper abilities should get their own pages and leave this page as a sort of launching pad to those pages, kind of like how the Unit Rankings page is. At the very least, Ability, Materia, and Esper column should be broken up into their own columns to reduce the clutter. In the end, I really just want a list of equippable materia without having to sort through equipment and espers. --Djseifer (talk) 19:10, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

If you're looking for equipment with a specific stat, then you may be looking on the wrong page. This is for weapons, armors, accessories. This page is for equippable materia, which includes that given by espers, produced through recipes, given by other materia, and equipment. This is the definition of materia. You may or may not notice that the columns are sortable, meaning when you click or tap on them, they sort things by whether or not they have anything in that column among other reasons. For what you seem to be wanting, according to your last line, viewing materia that is individual and without equipment, espers, or other materia attached to it can easily be viewed by clicking on the sortable columns. It only takes one click. --FencerTJ (talk) 22:21, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
