Overview[]

Lunar New Year Event

Lunar New Year is a global-exclusive event. There are two dungeons introduced in this event: Nian Beast Challenges and Great Nian Beast Attack. Nian Beast Challenges is an exploration dungeon that will refresh every day, allowing you to get a new, different rewards from the missions and chests. Great Nian Beast Attack is a challenge dungeon which will pit you against a Great Nian Beast.

Story[]

Every year, people in the town of Lunar hold a spring celebration to thank the god of spring with delicious food and festive dancing to be enjoyed by all.

However, the greedy nian beast and its friends are attracted to the fragrant smell of the food. They attack the town and attempt to grab all the food for themselves, ruining the celebration. It's time for Rain and his friends to defeat the monsters and save the town of Lunar before their spring is devastated.

Community Event[]

An additional community event is running throughout event period. See the Facebook page for more detail: Community Event: Defeat Nian Beast and get awesome rewards!

All players will get rewards depending on the total number of nian beasts and great nian beasts defeated by the community. Below are the rewards and designated milestone tiers:

Note: "No ability" does not include Esper summons (used Shiva), items (used Tent), Limit bursts and magic. Any attack that makes text appear at the top of the screen (like Dark Fina's counter, or Noctis's counter heal (chizuru's counter is fine though as it generates no text at the top of the screen (tested)) will count as an ability. Nian Beast can be inflicted with sleep (via ExDeath LB) to get 3 turns to bombard it with magic (physical attack will awake sleeping opponent). Dualcast and Dual Black Magic are also safe to use.

Abilities:

Fire - Fire magic damage to all units
Thunderstorm - Lightning magic damage to all units
Hunt - Massive physical damage to a single unit
Roar - Inflicts Paralysis and reduces Fire/Lightning resistance to all units
Preparation - Boosts DEF/SPR to caster.
Bloodthirst - Boosts ATK/MAG to caster.
A Tooth for a Tooth - Used after Preparation if magic or limit burst is used. May perform one of the following:
- Fixed 2500 HP damage to all units
- Unmitigated Magic damage to all units
- Note: To prevent this, don't use any magic or limit burst.
- Tooth for a tooth can be reflected with Carbuncle if the LIMIT BURST version is triggered on ELT, but not the magic version.

Strategy:

Equipping fire and lightning resistance from Flame Shield, Thunder Shield, Flame Mail, Ramuh or Ifrit will help lessen the damage inflicted from Fire and Thunderstorm.
Using Barthundara and Barfira are also highly recommended. Alternatively, you can use Omni-Veil or Rainbow Veil.
The Great Nian Beast is a beast-type enemy. Using equipment with Beast Killer or Ifrit will increase damage.
The Great Nian Beast is susceptible to break attacks like Full Break and Undermine. Higher difficulties may resist it.
Make sure to bring along either a Dispelling unit or some Holy Torches to remove the buffs from Preparation and Bloodthirst. You might need to reapply your buffs, but at least this way you are sure to survive longer.
Roar can inflict Fire/Lightning resistance debuffs and paralysis. Make use of the Jeweled Ring or have Luka, Refia, or Ling in your party to cure off paralysis.
All things considered, Cloud of Darkness is a great unit for this fight. She has Return to heal off various status ailments, Omni-Veil to increase your party's elemental defenses and also has, on her own, great elemental defenses, making her quite durable.
Once it uses Preparation, don't use magic or limit burst to prevent the boss from using A Tooth for a Tooth the next turn. You can use this turn to auto-attack to accumulate esper gauge.
Make sure to have an offensive item like Bomb Fragment or Void Vessel to clear one of the missions.
You can achieve all missions by overkilling the boss with LB, items, and esper with proper timing. Working example:
- Reduce its HP to 15000 or below.
- Evoke Diabolos.
- Wait until the CG animations appear (turn on the CG from the option)
- During the CG, spam tap/click to skip and activate LB in quick succession. Chizuru and Noctis LB was used in this example.
- Wait until the first OVERKILL text pops up.
- Use item as quickly as you can. Void Vessel was used in this example.
