Tips[]

  • See testimonials and discussions.
  • Before killing itself, Wave 1 (Essence of Despair) will end the battle with an AoE MP drain. Units that can restore MP via LB crysts will be greatly helpful, otherwise be sure the party has good Auto-Refresh-type passives.
  • Before killing itself, Wave 2 (Maw of Malice) will end the battle with a disease resistance break and inflict disease to the party.
    • At its 40%, 30%, 20%, and 10% HP soft thresholds, it will MP drain the party. Passing multiple thresholds will result in multiple drains.
    • Having a disease resistance buff up will be vital to preventing the Wave 3 boss from inflicting any of your units with zombie.
    • One method to avoid the disease altogether would be to get the boss to its 5% HP lock, use limit bursts across 4 different turns without killing it. The following message will appear on the boss's turn, "Your heroic acts have dispelled the dread!" You may now kill it, and it will not use its Disease inflicting skill.
    • Alternatively at the 5% HP lock, your units could counter it to death, which would also allow you to also avoid the Disease inflicting skill.
    • Or you also can kill the unit without disease resistance + disease resistance buff up before boss's turn, because it can not inflict disease on dead unit.
  • Since the Red/Blue Sigils are basically unkillable, ATK/MAG breaks will be vital for dealing with them, AoE preferably.
  • An evade provoke unit will deal with any of the physical attacks and the berserk attack, Raging Spirit.
  • A magic cover tank is needed.
  • The only elemental attacks used are fire, lightning, and dark.
  • Bring blind, confuse, paralyze, petrify resistance for the party. Poison resistance may also be helpful.
  • Because of RETURN!, hiding or jumping will not work.
  • A pair of hybrid attackers can quickly take down Essence of Despair, since it has high DEF and low SPR, and Maw of Malice has high SPR and low DEF.
  • Merciless Death strategy
    • It's possible to defeat Tel Fulsanis without reducing its HP to 0%, by triggering its Merciless Death.
    • Tel Fulsanis has a 20-count counter for his Merciless Death skill, which will cause him to KO himself. The counter will go up by 1 each turn for each Red Sigil that's currently alive for a maximum of 2 per turn, as well as going up by 1 each time he uses his Redemption skill. This means that ideally, if you do not seal any of the Sigils Tel Fulsanis will KO himself at the end of the 9th turn.
    • Once Tel Fulsanis has KO'd himself, the Sigils will KO themselves on the following turn. This means there will be a free turn to complete the Carbuncle summon mission if it had been forgotten.
    • The Merciless Death strategy can be done by covering with a sufficiently well geared tank and re-raising it each turn. The bulk of the damage for the turn will kill the tank, which will be immediately re-raised and should be able to survive until your next turn. AoE Breaks on the boss and the Sigils can help make sure that your tank survives after being re-raised.
    • When using the Merciless Death strategy, it is advised that you avoid dealing any form of elemental damage, including elemental counters. Attacking the Red Sigils with the wrong element will cause them to deal additional damage and potentially wipe your team, while attacking them with the correct element will cause them to turn into Blue Sigils which will delay the Merciless Death skill.
